What Evohome is, and how it works

A normal system has one thermostat in the hall making one decision for the whole house. Evohome makes one per room — each radiator controlled separately, on its own schedule. Nothing is wired between the parts, so it fits a house that is already lived in.

All wireless. Only the phone needs the internet — the schedules live on the controller. Hot water runs as its own zone on top of the twelve.

The controller

A touchscreen that holds every room's schedule and does the thinking. Joins your wi-fi so the app can reach it.

Radiator controllers

One replaces the plain head on each radiator and controls that room by itself. Room thermostats and underfloor heating zones work the same way. Up to 12 zones (per panel).

The appliance module

Sits by the boiler and lets the controller fire it — or, on an OpenTherm boiler, turn it down rather than off. Works with all boiler types and with heat pumps.

The app

Change any room from anywhere, and see what is actually on.

Is Evohome right for your home?

It is not right for everyone. We would rather say so now than after you have paid.

It earns its keep when…

  • Rooms used at different times — a home office, a spare room, bedrooms.
  • Rooms that never balance: the one that is always cold, the one that cooks.
  • A big or old house that is expensive to heat all at once.
  • Irregular hours, or working from home some days and not others.
  • Radiators and underfloor heating on one system.
  • Old, listed or awkward buildings — nothing is wired between the parts, so there is no chasing walls. We have fitted Evohome in churches and in Grade I and II listed homes.

It is probably overkill when…

  • A small flat, every room used at once — one good smart thermostat will do the same job for less.
  • You set it in October and leave it. The savings come from zoning you actually use.
  • You are replacing the heating system soon — sequence that properly first.

Works with: all boilers — combi, system and heat-only · heat pumps · wet underfloor heating, controlled at the manifold · hot water cylinders, as a zone on top of the twelve. Not sure what you have? Send us a photo of the boiler.

Why Honeywell Evohome?

Over 650 systems in. Why our clients rate it:

Control From Anywhere

Adjust any room from your phone, wherever you happen to be.

Where the savings come from

Heating and hot water are around 79% of household energy use1. Zoning means heating only the rooms you're in. Resideo, citing BEAMA test data, report savings of up to 32% a year where Evohome with an OpenTherm bridge replaces manual valves and a mechanical thermostat — a test-environment figure, not a promise for your house2. Where your boiler is OpenTherm compatible, Evohome can modulate it rather than simply switching it on and off, which means better efficiency and steadier comfort.

Up to 12 Heating Zones

Why heat the whole house for one room? Up to 12 zones (per panel), each on its own schedule.

The things people ask us

Will it work with my boiler?

Yes — all boiler types: combi, system and heat-only, as well as heat pumps. We have worked on shared and communal systems too. Where your boiler supports OpenTherm we can turn it down rather than just switch it off, which is where much of the efficiency comes from. Unsure? Send us a photo of the boiler.

Do I need new pipework or rewiring?

Usually not. The radiator controllers screw onto your existing valve bodies in place of the plain heads, as long as those bodies take the standard M30×1.5 thread — most do. Some older Danfoss, Comap and Oventrop valves need an adaptor, and a few need the body swapping; we check at survey. New wiring is the module by the boiler, plus a controller at the manifold if you have underfloor heating and a sensor if you have a hot water cylinder.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The heating carries on as scheduled. Schedules live on the controller, and it talks to the radiators over its own radio network rather than your wi-fi. You lose the app until it is back, nothing else.

How many rooms can I have?

Up to 12 heating zones (per panel), with hot water as a separate zone on top. A zone is usually one room — three radiators in the same room still count as one.

Can I start small and add rooms later?

Yes. Start where the difference will be obvious and add radiator controllers later. One caveat: Resideo's newer controller does not mix with the older HR92 kit, so we will tell you at survey which generation you are on and what that means for adding rooms.

Does it do hot water too?

If you have a hot water cylinder, yes — it becomes its own zone. With a combi there is no cylinder to control, so it is heating only.

What about underfloor heating?

Yes. Wet underfloor heating runs as Evohome zones alongside your radiators, through a controller at the manifold. Mixed systems are where it shines.

I already have Evohome and something is wrong with it

Half of what we do: systems never commissioned properly, zones bound to the wrong radiator, kit that has dropped off the network. We also work on the older HR92 and BDR91 generation.

Is it worth it, honestly?

In the right house, yes — the section above is a fair test of whether yours is one. What we will not do is quote you twelve zones you will never use.

Not covered? Just ask us.
